Naimisharanya Sightseeing

Naimisharanya Excursion (ex Luclnow)

(Same day return trip, 8 hours, including driving time & visits)

|| Teerath var Naimish vikhyata, ati puneet sadhak sidhi daata ||

(Among pilgrimages, Naimisharanya is the most important. It is the holiest of all that gives super natural powers)

Naimisharanya or Naimish is an ancient place of pilgrimage and learning. In the Puranas it is mentioned as one of the principal places of pilgrimage along with Prayag, Pushkar, Kedar, Setubandh and Gokaran. It is believed to have been the meditation centre of about eighty eight thousand saints. Maharishi Dadhichi after having bath in the water of Kund here, sacrificed himself and presented his bones to Lord Indra so that he could create a weapon with them, powerful enough to kill Demon Vritasur. It is believed that the tour to Hindu pilgrimages is incomplete without a visit to Naimisharanya.

Post breakfast (ideal time to leave: 0800 hrs) we will leave Lucknow for Naimisharanya (115 km / 2hrs). Upon arrival here, visit Chakra Tirth – a pond. It was here that Lord Vishnu’s sacred wheel fell and created a crater and since is filled with water. While here, visit Lord Shiva temple, probably the only temple which has Lord Vishnu’s idol along with that of Lord Shiva’s. We will also visit Lalitha Devi temple. Lalitha Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati and this temple is one of the Shakti petha where Goddess Sati’s heart fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her body after she burnt herself. On this tour, we will also visit Vyas Gaddi, a place where Maharishi Ved Vyas wrote Vedas. Vyas Gaddi is also the place where Sage Sukdev recited Shri Satyanarayan Katha for the very first time. We will then visit Pandava Qila, the fort of Pandavas where Pandavas stayed during their exile and visit Hanuman Garhi temple which adorns a standing idol of Lord Hanuman.

As a supplement, visit Mishrik which is about 15 km from Naimisharanya for Dadhichi Kund. This place is known to contain water from the scared rivers. It is believed; Indra the king of Gods was defeated and driven out of Devalok (Home of Gods) by a demon named Vritasur. The demon had the blessing that he could not be harmed by any weapon made of wood or metal. Vritasur was then killed by a weapon made out of the bones of Sage Dadhichi. Dadhichi is said to have taken the last holy dip in this pond, before sacrificing himself, so that a weapon could be made from his bones to kill the demon in order to save humanity and to establish peace on Earth.
