Mango fest in Lucknow set for grand opening today

Mango festival, a three day event dedicated to the king of fruits, is all set for a grand opening at the Janeshwar Mishra Park on Friday. Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav would be the chief guest on the occasion.

Divisional commissioner T Venkatesh on Thursday visited the Janeshwar Mishra Park to review last-minute preparations for the festival. In view of monsoon showers, the district administration has also issued instructions to set up waterproof pandals at the venue.

UP’s tourism department is a partner in the event. For the convenience of visitors, six LED vans for the display of the live inaugural ceremony of the programme would be parked at different locations at the Park. As a precautionary measure, a team of doctors would also be deployed at the venue.

Several events are also lined-up at the three-day festival, including cooking contest, which would be judged by master chef Pankaj Bhadouria, story-telling by kids, ‘Aam Pe Shayari’ and best mango theme dressed kid and family.

“The CM will be the chief guest on the occasion. Officials are expected to put in their best to make this event a mega hit,” said Praveer Kumar, Agriculture Production Commissioner.

As per the festival’s schedule, the timings would be between 10 AM and 6 PM. There would also be activities like – relish freshly plucked mangoes, sale of mango cartons, sale of mango by-products apart from other attractions like folk music and dance programmes, tonga rides and food stalls. “The festival will showcase mango production in the state capital. Besides, such events are also expected to boost tourism in the city,” said Raj Shekhar, District Magistrate
